Many of us think that we can get by with little to no sleep. This is a myth and something that needs to be addressed. When we sleep, our bodies are able to repair itself and get it prepared for the next days activities. When we aren’t getting enough sleep, it will start to take a toll on our bodies and our minds.
Finding the perfect spot
It comes down to finding the perfect spot to sleep. This means a firm mattress, a soft mattress or something in between. The mattress also needs to be large enough and adjust to our movements. When looking at a mattress people will test it out in the store and feel that it will do what they want. However, a mattress is one of those things we fit into over time.
Creating a sleep routine
We want to create a sleep routine where we start to tell our bodies it is time for bed. When we start to do specific actions such as take a shower, brush our hair or drink a glass of warm milk, we are sending signals to our brains telling ourselves it is time to sleep. When we do this melatonin starts to form and we are able to drift off to sleep easier.
Have a dark environment
If you are like me, you like to fall asleep to the television. When the television is playing, we tend to close our eyes to listen to it and then fall asleep. This is not a good thing to do. We need to have a quiet and dark environment. When we have this environment, we can start to rest our minds and body. Any form of stimulation will trigger a subconscious reaction in our minds that will prevent us from entering REM sleep which is what our bodies ultimately needs for rest and relaxation.
